Got this email in my Gmail mailbox. It's unbelievable that some idiot somewhere may only think that such a jumble of nonsense can be taken as true. Fell free to take Caroline Philips, er.. Mary Johnson as your blood sister, if you would like some easy, free money:
Dear Beloved one,
Based on your profile i am happy to request for your assistance because i believe that you are not going to betray the trust which I am going to lay on you, Hope all is well with you and other members of your family.
My name is Miss Caroline Philip, 25 years old and the only daughter of my late parents Mr.and Mrs. Philip. My father was a highly. Reputable Contractor Engineer who operated in the capital of Ivory Coast during his days. It is sad to say that he passed away mysteriously in France during one of his business trips abroad on 6th. November 2009. Though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle of his who travelled with him at that time, but God knows the truth!
Though I have not meet you before but i believe, one has to risk confiding in succeed sometimes in life. There is this huge amount of (Three million Five hundred thousand) U.S dollars ($3.5m) which my late Father Mr.Philip David Kept for me in Suspense Account here in Abidjan. My father told me that I should not let any of our relations to know about this because he was killed by them and if they know about it, that they will do nothing but to kill me in other to take hold of every thing, He told me that I should seek for a foreign partner abroad who will help me to transfer this fund overseas and also travel with him or her in other to continue my Live and Education and also to start a Business relationship with the person whom can take care of me in the future.
I am just 23 years old and a university undergraduate and really don't know what to do. This is because I have suffered a lot of set backs as a result of incessant political crisis here in Ivory coast. The death of my father actually brought sorrow to my life, my dear, I am in a sincere desire of your humble assistance in this regards and your suggestions and ideas will be highly regarded.
Now permit me to ask these few questions:
1. Can I completely trust you?
2. Can you accept me as your own blood Sister (Or Daughter)?
3. What percentage of the total amount in question will be good for you? Again i will want you to help me in are of investment like mention below.
1).Telecommunication
2).The transport Industry
3).Five Star Hotel
4).Tourism
5).Real Estate
Consider this and get back to me as soon as possible with your full assurance that you will not disappoint me in this issue so that I can give you the contact of the Bank where my late Father deposited the Fund for you to contact them on how to transfer the Money into your Account. Thank you so much for your understanding and May almighty God bless you and your Family to the Glory of God Almighty, Sincere regards, Miss Caroline Philip.

They make them deliberately stupid so you don't waste their time. If they looked convincing, then the extra time dealing with the people who get 90% suckered in (but realize the truth at the last minute) would take way longer than they need. Basically, it's about getting 1 out of 100000 people, knowing that 1 person is going to go all the way, not 1000 out of 100000 who won't.

The people who fall for these are typically not native English speakers. The nuances, weird diction/structure, and spelling are not picked up on by them. They're still foolish, but a lot of the wtf-ness that a native speaker gets at just a glance of the message is lost on the intended targets.

I love messing with those scammers. I usually give some fake info, and include an image "of my passport" that includes some nasty shit - like the lemonparty.org picture of the old men blowing each other, a picture of a woman puking while blowing a guy, and other assorted nasty porn pictures.
One scammer was talking with me back and forth after that - and of course then tried to recruit me as a "secret shopper" as if I didn't know that scam too lol

I read that as "Masterminded by an uncle of his who travelled THROUGH time." Lol
